Organic Food Project

What is it?

Large surface of cultivable lands are available around the 2 Homes. Cultivable lands are for some parts not being used, and for other parts not being managed efficiently.

There is much opportunity here. First the KF could diversify the type of crops and increase the volume of production resulting from agricultural activities. Second the KF could process those products into selected natural products, and target the national growing middle class market, and the regional one. Flowers, vegetables and fruits could be processed and transformed into natural health treatments (natural cream, natural soaps, etc.), or flower essence (as for example Malis/jasmine flower). The production of organic vegetables could be easily sold to local markets or expats market in Phnom Penh.

Why do we need your help/how you can help?

The project is a viable one, but in order to be sustainable, we need first to find an international expert who can share their knowledge and experience in agriculture production, or flower production. The expert would first study the possibility to match specific crops with the specific type of soils. She/he would then set up the production process, start identifying available human capacities, and start implementing training sessions to build local capacities and skills.

In order to start, a minimal investment would be required. The cost would encompass the purchase of agriculture inputs (seeds, natural fertilizers), machinery and equipment, tools, and involve production costs (electricity, water, fuel). The expert would be in charge of defining the budget, the work plan, and helping the management team for the mobilization of resources.

What are the expected results?

The first results would be to contribute to diversify the source of revenue for the KF, with the sales of vegetables and fruits to local market. Secondly we envision creating a reputable Khmer brand and position it on the Khmer market. Ultimately the vision would be to create a social business brand which profits are entirely used for social benefits and children welfare. There will be as well the opportunity to teaching the children a job that can provide them a decent revenue, and that can compete with jobs in urban areas, hence preventing the strong rural/urban migration.
